“Food you eat, not food that eats you!”

Our Farm

Attiki Gaea is a family farm of approximately two hectares (18 stremmata) near Sykamino (Oropos), in northeastern Attica, about 65 kilometers from the center of Athens.

Situated on a bluff overlooking the sea, the farm enjoys panoramic views across the Gulf of Evia toward the mountains of Evia to the north, while olive and pistachio groves form much of the surrounding landscape to the south, east, and west of us.

On the fertile soil of Attica, we cultivate lavender and other aromatic plants, herbs, traditional crops, olives, and a variety of fruit and nut trees. Our aim is to maintain a diverse agricultural environment through polyculture, caring for the soil and working in ways that respect the character of the land and the changing seasons.

Attiki Gaea is a certified organic farm, with our cultivation certified by DIO.

A Landscape with Deep Roots

The farm is situated within the basin of the Asopos River, in a landscape rich in the history and mythology of ancient Greece. The river itself was personified in antiquity as the god Asopos, while the wider Oropos region was associated with ancient Graea or Graia.

According to one influential historical theory, the people of Graea — known as the Graikoi — may have been given by the Romans the name Graeci, from which the modern English word “Greek” ultimately derives.

For us, that sense of continuity matters. Farming here means working within a landscape that has supported human settlement, cultivation and community for thousands of years.

In the Beginning…

We began with a simple idea: to take a largely empty plot of land and cultivate it with patience, care, and respect for the soil and the local conditions.

Our first cultivation included oregano, mountain tea, lavender and wheat. Through the blessings of the Almighty, that first season rewarded us with an abundance that exceeded our expectations.

Encouraged by the response of family, friends and others who tried our produce, we continued to experiment, learn and expand. We attended workshops, explored more sustainable ways of farming and gradually developed the land into a productive working farm.

What began in 2018 as an experiment soon grew into a professional farming activity — and, despite the many challenges, Attiki Gaea began to take the shape it has today.

Growing, Naturally

The farm continues to evolve with every season.

We have learned that farming is as much about observation as cultivation: watching how the soil responds, understanding how different plants grow alongside one another, adapting to rainfall and weather, and learning when to intervene — and when to let Nature take its course.

Diversity is an important part of that approach. Lavender, herbs, trees, seasonal crops and naturally occurring plants all contribute to the character of the farm, and we value the biodiversity that develops around them.

We are still learning from the land, and we expect that process never really to end. What we grow, make, and offer through Attiki Gaea is the loving expression of an ongoing relationship between people, place, the earth, and her Creator. And it is those relationships that drive our purpose and our motto:
